Stevie Wonder (I just called to say I love you)

"I Just Called to Say I Love You" is a song written, produced, and performed by Stevie Wonder as part of the soundtrack to the 1984 film The Woman in Red. The midtempo ballad expresses how simply calling someone to tell them you love them can make even the most unremarkable day of your life magical. It is one of Wonder's most simplistic, jingly and sentimental songs, and, with its quintessentially mid-80s synthesizers and drum machines, is a far cry from his more organic and experimental 1970s material. For those reasons it was savaged by critics upon its release. However, the public were seduced by its simple charms, making it one of Wonder's most successful singles to date.

The song was number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for three weeks from October 13, 1984 and also became Wonder's first solo UK number-one hit, staying at the top for six weeks. It also became his tenth number-one on the R&B chart and his fourth number-one on the adult contemporary chart. In addition, the song won both a Golden Globe and an Academy Award for Best Original Song.

There is a dispute between Wonder and his former writing partner Lee Garrett over authorship rights. Garrett claims to have written the song years prior to its 1984 release.

Genesis (Mama)

"Mama" was the first single from Genesis' 1983 self-titled album (often referred to as the "shapes album" or simply "Mama", after the first track). Instantly recognizable from its harsh drum machine introduction, which leads into minimalist synthesizer lines in minor keys and finally Phil Collins' reverb-laden voice, "Mama" serves notice that the album which follows will be considerably darker than previous efforts. It remains the band's biggest commercial success in the UK, reaching #4 on the UK Singles Chart, but was less popular in the US, only reaching #73 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The track also has a powerful final verse punctuated with a live drum kit (modified by effects), comparable to Collins' earlier solo recording "In the Air Tonight".

The song has resurfaced in 2007 as part of the Turn It On Again tour, albeit transposed down a key to account for the deepening of Phil Collins's voice over the years.

The B-side of the single featured an extended version of It's Gonna Get Better.

Wanna know the lyrics and shake with the video sing? See this...

Where do we go from here?
What must we do to make that change?
It's time to understand, understand one another

In a world so cold a place of disbelief
Where will the people go without enough to eat
Let's not give up hope
We have to find a way
Search within our soul to make a better day

Chorus:
This house is our house
Let's do it for the people
This house is their house
Let's give it back to the people
The people of the world today

I see hurt in their eyes
I hear the sounds of voices cry
It's time to open our eyes
Time to help one another

In a world so cold a place of disbelief
Where can the people go to find a place to sleep
Let's not give up hope we have to find a way
Search within our soul to make a better day

Chorus

Bridge:
You-Me-We can make the difference
And you know no one, no one likes to be alone
We got to face it heart to heart
We have to make a brand new start
We got to change the tears to smiles
We have to go the exta mile

(you-me) It's time we face reality
(We can make the difference)
Give them hope and set them free
I think it's time we say goodbye
To all the homeless people's cry

Rap:
We've got to take the time to search the mind to find

This house, our house
(It's all in the hands of love)
(I said it's all in the hands of love)

Chorus
