Don't Stop Me Now (Queen)

"Don't Stop Me Now" (sample (help·info)) is a 1979 hit single by Queen, from their 1978 album Jazz. Lyrics and music were written by Freddie Mercury. It was recorded in August/September 1978 in Nice, France.

Musically, the song is based around Mercury's piano playing, with John Deacon and Roger Taylor providing a bass guitar and drums backing track. On the studio version, Brian May's only guitar playing is in his guitar solo, but on live versions performed on the band's 1978 and 1979 tours, May would also play rhythm guitar throughout the rest of the song to add a rockier feeling to it. The song also provides an example of Queen's trademark style of multitrack harmony vocals for the chorus lines. Several recordings were laid over each other to achieve the final sound.

The lyrics have cosmic imagery describing feelings of power and exhilaration, for example "I'm gonna go, go, go there's no stopping me / I'm burning through the sky yeah 200 degrees…".

The single reached #9 in the UK charts but only #86 in the US.

It is famous for being a song Brian May did not like, and a jingle for Trafford Centre.

Despite the fact that the studio version is one of Queen's most popular songs, it only lasted from 1978-1979 live, with the last performance in the Crazy Tour.

I'm Too Sexy (Right Said Fred)

I'm Too Sexy" is sung from the point of view of a self-satisfied fashion model. The song's lyrics express confidence that his personal level of sexiness makes him too sexy for numerous things, most notably his shirt. The song's instrumental break is based on the guitar riff in the Jimi Hendrix song "Third Stone from the Sun."
A new version of the song called "I'm Too Sexy 2007", produced by the Tastemakers, was released in April 2007. Besides being an updated production it differs from the original version by no longer using the Third Stone From The Sun in its instrumental break. A new video was released as well although there is also a version where the original one from 1992 is used with the updated song.
The re-release of the song was prompted by a "Cleaner Close" advertising campaign for Daz detergent. This featured both Fairbrass brothers and included a self-parody of the song called "I'm too sexy for my whites". For this occasion they renamed the band "White said Fred".
The original song itself was rated No.49 on "Run for Your Life! It's the 50 Worst Songs Ever!"[by Blender.
The band is considered a one hit wonder in the United States, its only other charting U.S. single languishing at #76. However, "I'm Too Sexy" was just the act's first of several hits on the British charts, including the No. 1 single "Deeply Dippy."

Spandau Ballet (TRUE)

"True" was the third studio album by British band Spandau Ballet. It was released in March 1983, and was heavily influenced by jazz, soul, and R&B. It reached #1 on the UK charts, the top twenty in the United States, and charted in numerous countries around the world. The title track spent four weeks at #1 on the UK singles charts, and was a top five single in America. In 1991 it was sampled by the spiritual hip-hop act PM Dawn on their single "Set Adrift on Memory Bliss".

Other singles from the album included "Gold" (a #2 UK hit and a Top 30 hit in the U.S.), "Lifeline", "Communication" and "Pleasure". Later album releases by the band never equalled the success of True, and they broke up six years later.

Chicago (If You Leave Me Now)

"If You Leave Me Now" is the title of a popular hit ballad by the American rock group Chicago, from their album Chicago X. It was written and sung by bass guitar player Peter Cetera and released as a single in July 1976.

It is also the title of a compilation album released by Columbia Records (Columbia 38590) in 1983.

The single topped the US charts on October 23, 1976 and stayed there for two weeks, making it the first number one hit for the group. It also reached the number one spot in the UK, maintaining the position for three weeks. It was popular in multiple radio formats, and at one point during its peak listeners could hear it being played simultaneously on four different New York City radio stations.

"If You Leave Me Now" was also Chicago's biggest hit worldwide after topping the charts in other countries such as Britain and Australia. It went on to win Grammy Awards for Best Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist(s) and Best Pop Vocal Performance by a Duo, Group or Chorus.

TOTO (I Will Remember)

In 1995, Toto recorded Tambu, their first album with Simon Phillips, which saw the band back with CBS, which was now Sony. A departure from Toto's polished, almost over-produced sound of the late 1970s and 1980s, Tambu was a very organic release and featured the single "I Will Remember" which received moderate radio play. Other singles released were "Drag Him To The Roof" and "The Turning Point". Tambu also featured John James and Jenny Douglas-McRae as session singers on some of the tracks. Jenny also sang lead on the album's bonus track "Blackeye" and also in a duet with Steve Lukather on "Baby He's Your Man". The album did not sell well in the United States(and in fact was not even released there until almost a year after it came out overseas) and the planned second single "Baby He's Your Man" ended up being cancelled.[26] Unlike the domestic disappointment, however, Tambu sold 600,000 copies worldwide.

The "Tambu Tour" proved to be another success, although there were no North American dates. Simon Phillips suffered from a back problem so Gregg Bissonette had to fill in for him during the first leg of the tour in late 1995. The tour concluded in 1996. The rest of the tour personnel remained the same, with the exception of Donna McDaniel who left in 1994 shortly after the "Night of the Proms" performances (which Jenny had missed since she was out touring with Joe Cocker). The song "Hold The Line" was now sung as a duet between Jenny and John.[27] Both Jenny and John were dropped from the band at the conclusion of the 1997 tour.
